Champions of the 12th Dr. Sadik Ahmet Football Tournament organized by FEP Party Youth Branch and BTAYTD Young Academics Community organized have been announced.
Youth Branches of Friendship, Equality, Peace (DEB) Party and Young Academics Community operating under the umbrella of Western Thrace Minority Higher Education Association (BTAYTD) organized the Sadik Ahmet Football Tournament.
The unforgettable leader of the Western Thrace Turks, the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet organized on the occasion of Sadik Ahmet's 27th death anniversary, the 12th Dr. Sadik Ahmet Football Tournament was held on 17-23 July in the football field of Kalfa village of Komotini Municipality.
Great interest was shown in this year's tournament. A total of 14 teams, including 10 adult teams consisting of students studying at different universities and 4 junior teams consisting of students studying in primary schools, struggled to become champions in the tournament.
Yahyabeyli Kartalları, who defeated their rival Bağlar Mahallesi team 7-3 in the final matches played on Saturday evening, July 23, became the champion, while the Xanthi Young Academics Club team, which defeated the rival Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University team in adults, completed the tournament as champions.
In the finals of the tournament, the children's teams took the field first. Then the adults played a contentious finale. Before both finals, the late leader Dr. Sadik Ahmet was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Both the managers and the kinsmen showed great interest in the final matches played on the Kalfa football field.
Among those who watched the final matches, Murat Ömeroğlu, the Consul General of Turkey to Komotini, his wife Aslı Ömeroğlu, the late leader Dr. Sadik Ahmet's wife, FEP Party Honorary President Işık Sadik Ahmet, son Levent Sadik Ahmet, daughter Funda Sadik Ahmet, FEP Party Chairman Çiğdem Asafoğlu, former president Mustafa Ali Çavuş, Western Thrace Minority Graduates Association President Hüseyin Baltacı and board members, Komotini Turkish Youth Union President Sedat Hasan, Western Thrace Turkish Teachers Union President Aydın Ahmet, Western Thrace Minority Schools Councilors Union President Ahmet Kara, Yassıköy Municipal Council Members Caner İmam, Özcan Mehmet, Headman Mehmet Osman and hundreds of cognates were present.
This year's 12th Dr. Sadik Ahmet Football Tournament was the scene of firsts. This year, for the first time, the tournament was jointly organized by the FEP Party Youth Branch and the Young Academics Community operating under the umbrella of BTAYTD. The other first thing that happened was that the middle referee who directed the final match of the adults was female. Azra Hasan directed the match.
After the final matches of the tournament, in which the champions were determined, were played, a trophy and medal ceremony was held.
While medals were given to the top three teams in the tournament, the champion teams were also given trophies along with the medals. A certificate of participation was given by the organizers to all the teams that participated in the tournament, whether they were ranked or not.
Trophies, medals, and participation certificates were given to the teams by the managers who watched the final matches and did not leave the youth alone.
