During the ceremony, Lieutenant General Demokritos Konstantakos handed over the command of the 2nd Corps in Thrace to Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos.

Minister of Defence Nikos Dendis, who attended the ceremony, addressed the Armed Forces community present at the ceremony, sharing his thoughts on the handover and addressing the needs of the Armed Forces leadership.

Dendias stated that a decision has been taken for a very large housing programme to be implemented by the Ministry of Defence in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy to meet the needs of the Armed Forces managers, which will include not only military managers, but also doctors working in the health sector and educators serving in the field of education in designated areas.

Stating that the first phase of the housing programme will start from the islands of Thrace and the Eastern Aegean, President Dendias also made the following statements on his social media X account:

"The ceremony for the transfer and acceptance of the command of the 4th Corps in Thrace from Lieutenant General Demokritos Konstantakos to Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos took place in Xanthi.

A major housing programme to meet the needs of the Armed Forces leadership has been agreed and will be implemented in the near future.

We have chosen to start the first phase of this housing programme, i.e. the construction of executive housing, in Thrace and the Eastern Aegean and to start immediately.

In Thrace, more than 200 houses will be built in the next two years, increasing the available housing for our managers by almost 40 per cent, while another 400+ houses will be built on the islands in the Eastern Aegean.

This is the first stage, not the final stage. Our aim is to comprehensively solve the housing problem of members of the Armed Forces in the "2030 agenda"."

Minister Dendias also touched upon the creation of an antidrone dome against the UAV threat and said, "There is a provision for the creation of an antidrone dome for the Armed Forces of our country. In other words, the means that will enable our Armed Forces to operate protected from the UAV threat... In today's complex environment, we aim for the Armed Forces of our country to operate under an advanced antidrone cover."
