Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited a military outpost in Greece’s northeastern region of Evros on Friday as part of a brief tour of border regions during Orthodox Easter.

Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited a military outpost in Greece’s northeastern region of Evros on Friday as part of a brief tour of border regions during Orthodox Easter.

The minister visited the surveillance post “5”, which is under the command of the XVI Mechanised Infantry Division, in Didymotiho, where he was informed about its mission. He spoke with the officers and serving soldiers and exchanged wishes for Easter.

Dendias was accompanied by the head of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA), General Dimitris Houpis, the Chief of Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the Commanding General of the Hellenic First Army/EU-OHQ “Achilles”, Lieutenant General Stavros Papastathopoulos, and the Commanding General of D Army Corps. Lieutenant General Panagiotis Kavidopoulos.

He then went to the town of Orestiada, where he attended the Service of the Lamentations at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Saints Theodoroi, which was officiated by  His Eminence Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestias and Soufli, Damaskinos, as well as the procession of the Epitaph.

On Saturday, Dendias is scheduled to travel to Panagia, a small Greek island of the Oinousses complex in the eastern Aegean Sea, where he will visit a military garrison.
