Contacts Between the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and international airlines

For the first time, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace participated in the annual pan-European forum of major travel agencies and airline companies, “Routes 2025”, which this year took place in Seville, Spain.
Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism, Panagiotis Arhontis, along with a technical consultant hired by the regional administration, held a series of important meetings with representatives of well-known tourism agencies and leading international airlines, including: Cyprus Airways, Eurowings, EasyJet, Jet2, Transavia, Aegean, Sky Express, LOT, TUI, Condor, Corendon, Edelweiss.
What are the next steps
In the coming period, working meetings are scheduled with all of these airlines to discuss technical details and operational matters, with the ultimate goal of planning new flight routes to the “Megas Alexandros” Airport in Kavala and the “Dimokritos” Airport in Alexandroupoli.
“This initiative will lead to a strategic development of air tourism, with a strong added value for the growth of our region and the extension of the tourist season, making our Region an attractive and easily accessible destination.” Mr. Archontis stated and added:
“The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace is now steadily moving in the direction of enhancing extroversion and promoting the full range of tourism products that our area offers. Following our contacts with Fraport, we have now entered the second phase of our effort — approaching airline companies.”
