Baran strongly condemns police assault: “An affront to human dignity, must be investigated immediately”
Independent MP for İskeçe, Dr. Burhan Baran, issued a written statement in response to allegations that a police officer used excessive force against a member of the Turkish minority, calling the incident “unacceptable and degrading to human dignity.”
“I have always shown respect to the police and stood by them in every situation. However, what happened today, as reported publicly and confirmed through my discussions with the victim’s relatives, is unacceptable and cannot be left without comment,” Baran said.
“The law was clearly violated”
Baran stressed that the victim, who reportedly suffers from serious health problems, was subjected to excessive violence while being taken into custody. “This is a clear violation of the law and an act that undermines human dignity,” he added.
“Those responsible must be held accountable”
The MP underlined the need for immediate action:
“The mistake of one officer cannot be attributed to the entire force. But this incident must be investigated thoroughly and without delay, and those responsible must be held accountable. Our society cannot tolerate incidents that erode trust in institutions and jeopardize citizens’ safety.”
