Baran asks about the transport problem of students in Second Chance Schools

Independent MP for Xanthi Burhan Baran brought to the parliamentary agenda the exclusion of students attending Second Chance Schools (S.D.E.) from free transport.

Reminding the Joint Council of Ministers Decision on the issue, MP Baran stated that injustice has been done to the students studying at Second Chance Schools.

Burhan Baran noted the following in his parliamentary question on the subject: "With the Joint Council of Ministers Decree No. 32239/05-04-2024 (Official Gazette B'2051) amending the Joint Ministerial Decision of the Ministers of Finance, Education and Religious Affairs, Interior, Infrastructure and Transport No. 50025/2018 on "Transport of Public School Students from Regions", a great injustice is done to the students of Second Chance Schools.

The National Association of Second Chance School Administrators condemns the exclusion of Second Chance School pupils from the free transport for public school pupils in the recent amendment and emphasises in particular that the cost of transport risks disrupting their education.

The Second Chance School in Xanthi, one of the biggest schools in the region, has a transport problem, while the Second Chance Schools in Mustafçova (Miki) and Ketenlik (Kendavros) have a bigger problem.

The authorities, which provide free transport to students in public schools, immediately terminated the relevant contracts without the slightest provision for the Second Chance School.

This amendment clearly contributes to depriving Second Chance School students of their right to education.
Because everyone deserves a second chance in life and we must give everyone equal opportunities to learn,
The relevant Ministers are asked:

Does the Government intend to amend Joint Council of Ministers Decree No. 32239 or issue another relevant regulation in accordance with Article 46 of Law No. 4653/2020 published in Official Gazette No. 2051/B/5-4-2024?

Do you intend to make a new regulation in accordance with Article 46 of Law No. 4653/2020 or make any other appropriate arrangement to solve the problem of free transport of Second Chance School students for the remaining academic year and once and for all, as in other types of public schools?"
