Bağcılar Municipality delegation pays visit to Western Thrace
The program began in Gümülcine, where Yıldız met with Türkiye’s Consul General Aykut Ünal. The delegation also visited Gümülcine Mufti İbrahim Şerif and the President of the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union, Sedat Hasan.
Mayor Yıldız later paid respects at the grave of the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet, the prominent leader of Western Thrace Turks, where he was accompanied by Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party Chair Çiğdem Asafoğlu and other party officials.
In İskeçe, Yıldız met with Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board President and İskeçe Mufti Mustafa Trampa.
Following the visit, Yıldız shared a message on social media:
“As part of our visit to the ancestral lands of our neighbors who settled in Bağcılar from Kavala and Selanik during the 1923 population exchange, we were warmly welcomed. I sincerely thank Consul General Aykut Ünal, elected Mufti of Gümülcine İbrahim Şerif, Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union President Sedat Hasan, FEP Party Chair Çiğdem Asafoğlu, and elected Mufti of İskeçe Mustafa Trampa for their hospitality.”
