Applications increasing to the centre for combating addiction
Sibel Mustafaoğlu, President of the Komotini Centre for Combating Addiction "ORFEAS" and Psychiatrist Garo Esayan visited the Mayor of Komotini Garanis in his office and gave information about the activities they carry out and the problems experienced.
Sibel Mustafaoğlu, President of the Orfeas Centre for Combating Addiction, and its Director, Psychiatrist Dr. Garo Esayan, visited the Mayor of Komotini, Yannis Garanis, on Monday 30 October.
During the meeting, which took place in a cordial atmosphere, the activities carried out by the Orfeas Centre for Combating Addiction and the problems experienced were discussed, especially the lack of personnel was emphasised.
Mayor Garanis was informed about the recent increase in the number of applications to the Orpheas Centre from both schools and families and the work carried out to meet the needs of the community in this area.
Officials said that the centre was struggling to meet the needs due to the reduction in the number of staff, and that a request made to the OKANA (Anti-Drug Agency) for years for the recruitment of new staff had not yet been answered.
Mustafaoğlu and Esayan stated that 2 specialised personnel have left and their places have not yet been filled.
At the same time, it was reminded that the contracts of employees who have been serving under contract with the ESPA programme for 2.5 years are about to expire.
It was also noted that the issue of the institutional framework for the management of addiction centres across Greece remains unresolved.
Sibel Mustafaoğlu, President of Orfeas, pointed out that these problems were also discussed at a recent meeting between the members of DIKEPRE Greek Anti-Addiction and Mental Health Centres.
Mayor Garanis stated that he has been with the Orpheas Centre until today and that he will continue to be with it in the new period and that they will not withhold their support and assistance in the fight against addiction in the region of Komotini.
