Annexation of Komotini celebrated with ceremonies
On the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of Komotini, ceremonies were held today, Tuesday 14 May 2024, in the city centre.
On the occasion of the 104th liberation anniversary of Komotini, ceremonies were organised in the city. The celebration programme started at 11.00 am with a mass in the church.
Afterwards, religious, political, police and military officials went to the town square and attended the ceremony organised in front of the sword monument and laid wreaths. The Consul General of Turkey in Komotini, Aykut Ünal also took part in the wreath laying ceremony at the Sword Monument.
The programme then continued with official parades. After the officials took their places in the protocol, the members of the associations carrying out cultural and sportive activities made the first parade.
This was followed by primary schools, secondary schools, high schools, vocational schools, music schools and schools for children with special needs.
The ceremonies ended with the parade of police and soldiers.
The New Democracy Party government was represented by Justice Minister Yorgos Floridis, while the Radical Left Alliance SYRIZA leader Stafanos Kasselakis, Turkish Minority MP Özgür Ferhat, Representing the Province of Eastern Macedonian Thrace, Deputy Minister Evkarpidis Nikos, Vice-Ministers Emanuil Tapacas, Rıdvan Hacı Mehmet, Mayor of Komotini Yannis Garanis, Mayor of Kozlukebir Erdem Hüseyin, Mayor of Yassıköy Caner İmam were among the participants.
Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini Aykut Ünal also attended the ceremonies.
