The Mayor of Alexandroupoli, Yiannis Zampoukis, welcomed the Secretary-General of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDKE), Dimitris Kafantaris, to discuss the details of the highly anticipated event.
This year, Alexandroupoli has been chosen to host the annual gathering of the country’s mayors, set to take place from November 6 to 8, 2025. The KEDKE annual conference is a key event for local governance, bringing together mayors from across Greece to foster collaboration and address critical issues and challenges faced by municipalities.
The decision to hold the conference in Alexandroupoli was finalized during a meeting on January 21, 2025, at the city’s town hall.
Mayor Yiannis Zampoukis expressed his pride in the city’s selection:
“The choice of Alexandroupoli to host KEDKE’s annual conference is a great honor for our city. It highlights the pivotal role of Alexandroupoli as a reference point for local governance and regional development. This major event not only advances dialogue on the challenges our municipalities face but also offers visitors the opportunity to experience the rich cultural heritage, history, and hospitality of our region. I am confident this conference will be a milestone for strengthening collaboration and growth in local governance.”
Secretary-General Dimitris Kafantaris, thanking the Mayor for the cooperation thus far, added:
“The decision to hold the annual conference in Alexandroupoli was deliberate, as we aim to support the border region of Thrace, particularly Evros, which serves as Greece’s gateway from the East. The Central Union of Municipalities of Greece strives to be present in every corner of our country, demonstrating tangible support through meaningful actions.”
