Visiting the damaged areas caused by heavy rain, storm, and hail disaster in the Xanthi plain region, Minister of Agriculture Giorgos Georgandas stated that the government is always with the farmers and said that the farmers will definitely be paid immediately.

Minister Georgandas visited the Xanthi Topiros Municipality and met for a while with the mayor, Thomas Mihoglou. Having received information about the problems in the region, the minister later visited the damaged areas. The Minister's contacts in Xanthi were accompanied by East Macedonia Thrace Region President Christos Metios, Xanthi YDP Deputy Spiros Tsilingiris, Xanthi State Vice President Kostas Kurtidis, and East Macedonia Thrace Region Agricultural Compensation Authority ELGA President Pantatzis.

According to the results obtained from the examinations made in the region, approximately 45 thousand decares of cultivated land were damaged in the Xanthi plain region. It was stated that the disaster affected wheat, sunflower, and kiwi fields more.

The Minister and the accompanying delegation visited the damaged areas, talked to the farmers, listened to their problems, and said that the government is with them as in previous periods. It was noted that the farmers thanked the Minister Georgandas, who stated that the necessary work has begun to urgently cover the losses, for the interest and interest in him.

Minister Georgandas said the following on the subject: “According to the Agricultural Compensation Authority ELGA officials, all of the crops were damaged in many lands. In some places, partial damage was detected. My presence here today demonstrates the importance our government places on our farmers. Damages will be identified and addressed promptly. Compensation applications will be made together with the damage assessment. Our aim is to pay compensation for damages quickly and fairly. Unfortunately, the damage is not only in Xanthi but also in other parts of the country.

For last year's losses, approximately 350 million euros have been paid so far. You understand how difficult the situation is. Today I want to give a message here. Our farmers are going through a really difficult period. We, the government and the ministry, are always with you. We will do our best to compensate for the damages as quickly as possible. Be calm about it.”
