ABTTF voices support for Minority leaders summoned for testimony

The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) has issued a statement supporting minority institution leaders recently summoned to the Xanthi Police Directorate as part of an investigation. The probe relates to an alleged provocation by state-appointed deputy muftis during Friday prayers at the Çınar Mosque in Aşağımahalle, Xanthi, last October.

Halit Habipoğlu, President of ABTTF, condemned the summons, describing it as a continuation of the legal pressure and intimidation targeting minority institution leaders in Greece. “This investigation, following the blatant provocation by state-appointed deputy muftis, is yet another example of the ongoing judicial harassment against our community’s representatives in recent years,” he stated.

Habipoğlu extended well wishes to Dr. Hüseyin Baltacı, President of the Western Thrace Minority Graduates Association, and Ozan Ahmetoğlu, President of the Xanthi Turkish Union, who were summoned for testimony. He reaffirmed ABTTF’s unwavering support for the leaders and called on Greece to respect the religious autonomy and will of the Western Thrace Turkish community as guaranteed by bilateral and international treaties. “We urge the immediate recognition of the muftis elected by our community,” he concluded.
