ABTTF condemns verdict in İskeçe Mosque case, citing Religious Freedom Concerns
The Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) has strongly criticized the court verdict in the case related to an incident at Çınar Mosque in İskeçe, arguing that the ruling raises serious concerns regarding religious freedom and the rights of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
In its statement, ABTTF described the decision as a setback for the protection of minority rights and reiterated its longstanding position that members of the Turkish community should be able to exercise their religious rights without interference. The federation also linked the case to the broader dispute surrounding the recognition and appointment of muftis in Western Thrace.
The case stems from events that took place during Friday prayers at Çınar Mosque in October 2024 and has attracted significant public attention within the Turkish minority community. Court proceedings were closely followed by community representatives, elected officials and civil society organizations.
ABTTF called on the Greek authorities to ensure full respect for religious autonomy and fundamental rights, while emphasizing the need for dialogue on issues affecting the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
