ABTTF and BTDD condemned the attack on the Turkish teenager
The Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association and ABTTF condemned the attack on a 16-year-old Turkish teenager by a group of about 20 people in Xanthi.
The statement made by BTTD is as follows:
“The beating of a 16-year-old boy to the extent of being lynched by a group of 20 people deeply upset the Western Thrace Turkish Minority.
Such attacks are reminiscent of the events of January 29, 1988 and 1990.
Pig heads were thrown at our mosques and masjids were attacked with Molotov cocktails in the past years.
Articles encouraging these provocative actions were also frequently written in the Greek press.
Despite this, Western Thrace Turks have always acted with common sense in the face of these events.
Friendship and peace between Greece and Türkiye has always been the desire of the Turks of Western Thrace.” it was said.
The statement was concluded as follows: "Although it is common for some politicians to try to produce politics based on the sensitivities of the society on the eve of the election, it is clear that the wrong policies of the Greek government and the recent radical rhetoric are causing social reactions.
We all know that it is necessary to be careful against provocative actions in this process. Racist rhetoric and racist actions are unacceptable in the heart of Europe.”
In the statement made by the European Western Thrace Turkish Federation, “As the ABTTF Presidency Board and his family, we condemn this racist and heinous attack on our youth in the strongest terms. We send our best wishes to him and his family.
Racist and hate-based attacks targeting Western Thrace Turkish society and its members by groups with far-right ideology threaten peace and tranquility in our region and harm the culture of living together.
We call the police to carry out the investigation into the attack meticulously and the perpetrators to be caught immediately therefore handed over to the judicial authorities.” it was said.
