68-year-old alleged ‘Vor v zakone’ arrested in Rodophe

A 68-year-old foreign national was arrested in Gümülcine (Komotini) on Tuesday morning on weapons-related charges, after police discovered a pistol, grenade, ammunition and other weapons hidden inside his home.

The arrest was carried out by officers from the Northern Greece Organized Crime Sub-Directorate following information gathered by the authorities.

Police search uncovers weapons

Officers from the Crimes Against Property Office and the Crimes Against Life and Property Department, assisted by operational teams from the Intelligence and Special Actions Department, searched the man's residence in the presence of a judicial authority representative.

During the operation, police said they found and confiscated a pistol with a magazine containing seven rounds, a grenade without its detonator and the grenade's separate detonator.

Authorities also seized a spare pistol magazine containing one round, 66 additional rounds, two shotgun cartridges, a metal dagger with its sheath and two mobile phones.

Police identify alleged organized crime ties

According to the investigation, the suspect holds the title “Vor v zakone,” or “Thief in Law,” a term associated with senior figures in Russian-speaking organized crime networks.

Police said the man had previously been accused in Germany of involvement in a criminal organization.

The suspect is expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor, where the case will proceed under Greek law.
