In a statement released by the "Spartakos Network", which protects the rights of soldiers in Greece, it was noted that they resigned because the government sided with Israel and the soldiers realised that they were sent on a suicide mission.

"The Houthis, who attacked ships supporting Israel in its genocidal war against the Palestinian people, are using armed drones that no navy ship can resist," the statement said.

In a statement issued by the New Left group in parliament, the resignations are a protest against the working and wage conditions in a dangerous job.

"We call on the government not to involve our country and Navy personnel in an operation in a war zone, especially not under the auspices of international organisations or the European Union," the statement said.
