17 arrests for drugs in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace during the last week of 2024
As part of targeted efforts to combat drug trafficking, 17 individuals were arrested between December 23 and 30, 2024, across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The arrests were made by officers from the Police Departments of Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Komotini, and Drama. Among the suspects were 16 Greek nationals and one foreign national, with seven separate case files prepared for violations of drug-related laws.
In one notable incident, a foreign detainee at the Paranesti Drama Pre-Removal Detention Center was arrested after police discovered a parcel addressed to him containing 4.68 grams of cannabis concealed in a nylon package.
In six additional cases during the same period, police officers from various departments, assisted by the drug-sniffing dog "Laika," conducted checks leading to the arrest of six Greek nationals in Alexandroupolis, one in a village near Kavala, four in Rhodope, and five in Drama. The confiscated items included 39.2 grams of raw cannabis, a small amount of heroin, a cannabis-laced cigarette mixed with tobacco, and 15 narcotic pills.
The case files have been submitted to the respective prosecutors, with investigations handled by relevant police departments in Alexandroupolis, Kavala, Komotini, Drama, and Arriana.
