National Press: Türkiye a strong actor at the International Diplomacy Table
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s diplomatic meetings during the United Nations (UN) General Assembly have received wide coverage in the national press, highlighting Türkiye’s growing influence on the international stage.
Commentary in the press underlined that Erdoğan’s engagements demonstrated Türkiye’s position as a strong and direct interlocutor in international diplomacy, particularly from the perspective of the United States.
A report published by the Greek news outlet in.gr drew attention to a photo taken during a UN session on Gaza, where President Erdoğan was seated next to U.S. President Donald Trump. The analysis emphasized that the image symbolized Erdoğan’s diplomatic standing and Turkey’s place at the table.
The article noted: “While Trump views Erdoğan as an equal counterpart, Athens seeks to build its national narrative by portraying Prime Minister Mitsotakis as holding the upper hand.” It also underlined that Erdoğan’s position to Trump’s right in the photo reflected Türkiye’s priority status.
The piece further assessed: “Erdoğan has now become one of Washington’s highly significant interlocutors at international diplomacy tables.”
In addition, Türkiye’s recent multi-billion-dollar economic and defense agreements with the United States were highlighted as moves that shift the international balance in Ankara’s favor.
The article concluded with a pointed question: “Many are wondering: could the Greek Prime Minister secure a similar photo opportunity, seated beside the U.S. President, during such a critical meeting on a globally sensitive issue like Gaza?”
