The Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association celebrated its 79th anniversary, highlighting decades of advocacy for the rights and identity of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.

In a message marking the occasion, General President Hasan Küçük reflected on the association’s historical struggle and its ongoing commitment to the future. He said:

"Today we celebrate not just an association, but 79 years of a stance, a belief, and a struggle. For 79 years, the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association has stood as the unwavering guardian of our just cause. We are fully aware of the great responsibility this legacy carries."

Küçük paid tribute to the founders and past presidents, emphasizing that the Turkish community in Western Thrace, entrusted to Greece under the Treaty of Lausanne, has preserved its identity, language, and culture despite numerous challenges.

“Injustice Will Not Intimidate Us”

Highlighting ongoing pressures on the Turkish minority, including school closures, interventions in educational autonomy, and policies denying their identity, Küçük affirmed:

"These violations and pressures will never intimidate us. On the contrary, they strengthen our faith and determination to continue the struggle."

He stressed that the association operates above politics, solely defending the rights of Western Thrace Turks, and that this effort will continue with determination.

“The Struggle Belongs to All”

Looking ahead, Küçük emphasized the association’s commitment to future generations, stating:

"We will work to leave a brighter and fairer Western Thrace for those who come after us. This cause is not only ours—it is the cause of all of Turkey and oppressed peoples everywhere."

He concluded his message with: “Long live the Western Thrace Turks! Long live our just cause!”
