Galatasaray clinch record 26th Turkish Super Lig title after dramatic win
The Istanbul side secured a fourth consecutive league crown under coach Okan Buruk, further widening the gap over fierce rivals Fenerbahçe in Türkiye’s all-time title standings.
Needing a win to mathematically seal the championship, Galatasaray came from behind twice at home, powered by a second-half brace from Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. Mario Lemina and Kaan Ayhan also scored in a match that sparked celebrations across Istanbul and Turkish communities abroad.
Osimhen emerges as title race difference-maker
Much of the praise centered on Osimhen, whose prolific form transformed Galatasaray’s attack this season. Turkish media described him as the “difference maker” in the title race, with the club reportedly winning 20 of the 24 league matches in which he scored.
The title also marked another milestone for Buruk, who matched the club’s four-title streak achieved under legendary coach Fatih Terim between 1996 and 2000.
Turkush President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated the club, players, staff and supporters in a social media message after the final whistle.
Fenerbahçe left frustrated again
Galatasaray’s consistency proved decisive in another intense title battle with Fenerbahçe, whose hopes faded after a damaging 3-0 derby defeat last month. The loss eventually led to the dismissal of coach Domenico Tedesco.
For Fenerbahçe, the disappointment continued as the club extended its wait for a first league title since 2014 despite another strong campaign.
The latest triumph also reinforced Galatasaray’s growing international stature after a strong Champions League run this season. Celebrations spread beyond Türkiye, with thousands of supporters gathering in Berlin and other European cities late into the night.
