Aziz Yıldırım makes statement for presidency
In a written statement, Aziz Yıldırım, former president of Fenerbahçe, pointed out that the football team is fighting for the championship and said, "The club's agenda should be the championship, not the presidency. However, the community is persistently distracted from the championship agenda, and the technical team and the team are negatively affected by this situation. This should never be allowed."
Recalling his remarks in the press conference he had organised earlier, Yıldırım continued his statement as follows:
"Again, as I stated in a press conference I organised in the past months upon a question asked, 'If FETÖ members, coaches or people who have benefited from the club in any way run for the club, and if no one stands against them as a candidate, I will be a candidate', I have put forward a number of extremely important principles on behalf of our club. At this point, there are still months before the elective ordinary general assembly and all these speeches are unwarranted. Our team needs the championship, but the agenda of the community is persistently being diverted away from the championship. Fenerbahçe does not have a presidential problem at the moment."
Emphasising that if he has any plans to become a candidate, he will announce this issue himself, Yıldırım said:
"If I have any planning, the public will learn it from me, not from third parties. Therefore, no one has the right to make a statement on my behalf. When the time comes for the ordinary general assembly with elections, necessary explanations will be made. There are many suitable candidates for the presidency of Fenerbahçe Sports Club, which has more than fifty thousand members, and when the time comes, these people should stand as candidates. If not, this is a sad situation. However, it is too early to talk about these things and there is no need to discuss them. I expect no one to speak on my behalf, however, when the time comes, the necessary explanations will be made by myself, and I ask the public not to rely on any other information."
