US dominates global data center footprint
The United States has 4,767 data centers as of June 2026, more than the combined total of the other nine countries in the global top 10, according to the figures provided.
The remaining nine countries account for 3,937 facilities, highlighting the scale of the US lead and the concentration of digital infrastructure in the country.
The United Kingdom ranks second with 568 data centers, followed by Germany with 533. Both European markets face growing constraints linked to electricity supply, grid capacity and permitting.
France has 393 data centers and is emerging as a major AI infrastructure market. SoftBank has announced a €75 billion commitment for AI data center development in France, including 5 GW of planned capacity, potentially increasing the country's infrastructure footprint.
China has 376 data centers. While its facility count remains well below that of the US, the number of individual sites does not fully reflect the scale of some Chinese hyperscale campuses, which can accommodate substantial computing capacity.
India has 305 data centers and is seen as a major growth market. Its data center sector is projected to expand at a 13.37% compound annual growth rate through 2035, supported by rising AI adoption, a population of about 1.4 billion and government investment in digital infrastructure.
Brazil has 218 data centers and is gaining attention following ByteDance's announced $39 billion data center project in Ceará. The development could significantly increase Brazil's role in Latin America's data center market.
The global distribution of data centers is increasingly tied to the geography of artificial intelligence, cloud computing and digital services. As companies expand AI infrastructure, the balance of data center capacity across major markets is also beginning to change.
