Voter lists being updated!

The Ministry of Interior has begun updating the voter rolls by implementing a provision from the postal voting law approved last January.
This new initiative aims to clean the voter lists by removing deceased individuals, particularly those abroad, who were not reported. The update specifically affects voters aged 80 and above who meet the following criteria: born before January 1, 1944, did not submit tax returns, were not listed as dependents in tax declarations filed by December 31, 2023, do not possess a valid Greek passport, or are not receiving a pension.
According to Kathimerini newspaper, approximately 440,654 voters aged 80 and above have been identified as meeting these criteria. Areas with high numbers of immigrants, such as Florina and Laconia, have the largest concentration of these voters.
Many immigrants who passed away abroad without maintaining ties with Greece may still be on the records, leading to their continued inclusion.
Voters who wish to remain on the list must visit their municipality or, if residing abroad, their consulate by December 31, 2024, to present their identity and cancel the removal. After this date, voters will need to re-register in their local municipality.
Voters whose names are removed from the list on election day can obtain an "Omitted Voter Certificate" from their municipality and vote at any polling station within the designated area.
