In a major drug bust, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the discovery of over 194 kilograms of raw cannabis aboard a speedboat in Glyfada, southern Athens, the Hellenic Coast Guard announced on Saturday.

The arrests — involving two Greek nationals, aged 26 and 52, and a 52-year-old Iraqi national — were made on Friday during a coordinated operation in the areas of Haidari, Vari, and Kalyvia.

Authorities revealed the suspects had modified the speedboat to increase both cargo space and navigation capabilities, with preparations for the smuggling operation believed to have started as early as February 2025.

The investigation is ongoing, with two more suspects — an Italian and a Ukrainian national — being actively sought for their suspected roles in the drug trafficking network.

In addition to the drugs, police seized weapons, ammunition, mobile phones, SIM cards, a precision scale, a USB stick, and less than €500 in cash, pointing to a well-organized operation.
