In a series of targeted operations to combat drug trafficking, police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace arrested 14 individuals between April 3 and April 10, 2025. The arrests were carried out by law enforcement from the police departments in Drama, Kavala, Xanthi, Alexandroupolis, and Rodopi, who charged the suspects with violations related to narcotics and, in some cases, weapons possession.
POLICE ACTION IN XANTHI
On April 5, 2025, at the Pre-Departure Detention Center for Foreign Nationals in Xanthi, two men were arrested after a thorough search of a package intended for their shared use revealed a concealed amount of synthetic cannabis weighing 5.7 grams. The drugs were seized, and the suspects were detained.
LARGER SEIZURE IN ALEXANDROUPOLIS
In another significant case on April 9, 2025, police from the Alexandroupolis Crime Investigation and Resolution Division stopped a man during a routine vehicle search. In his possession, they discovered 173 grams of raw cannabis and a handmade cannabis cigarette mixed with tobacco. Both items were confiscated, and the individual was arrested.
ADDITIONAL ARRESTS AND SEIZURES
Beyond these cases, law enforcement also apprehended six men in Xanthi, two in Kavala, one in Drama, one woman in Alexandroupolis, and one man in Komotini for various drug-related offenses. The seizures included small quantities of heroin, raw cannabis, synthetic cannabis, thirty narcotic tablets, another handmade cannabis cigarette, two precision electronic scales, and a metal grinder. These items were confiscated during the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations in the region.
These operations highlight the continued focus of local police on addressing drug-related crimes, with the authorities committing to further actions to prevent the spread of narcotics throughout the region.
