Teenager to appear before prosecutor over fatal assault in Serres
A 16-year-old boy is expected to appear before a public prosecutor on Wednesday in the northern city of Serres in connection with the death of a 17-year-old following an alleged assault, police said.
The suspect, who was arrested on Tuesday, has admitted responsibility and faces a charge of intentional homicide. According to police, the victim was attacked late on Monday outside a betting shop, where he had been standing with friends. The attacker struck him on the head before fleeing the scene.
Investigators believe the incident may have been triggered by a message the victim had sent to a girl linked to the suspect. Authorities said a second person who was present was not involved in the attack.
After the assault, the victim reportedly felt unwell and returned home, where he was later found dead in a basement by his siblings on Tuesday morning.
An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
Police are also preparing a case against the suspect’s mother on suspicion of neglecting the supervision of a minor. The teenager was known to authorities and had previously been under juvenile probation supervision, police sources said.
