The Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) announced that Nikos Pappas, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), has been removed from the party’s European Parliament group following an incident in which he assaulted a journalist.

The Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) announced that Nikos Pappas, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), has been removed from the party’s European Parliament group following an incident in which he assaulted a journalist.

In a statement released by SYRIZA, it was said:

SYRIZA President Sokratis Famellos has removed SYRIZA MEP Nikos Pappas from the party’s parliamentary group due to his unacceptable behavior.”

The statement also noted that a disciplinary investigation has been launched with a view to expelling Pappas from the party entirely.

In remarks reflected in the media, Pappas confirmed the allegations that he assaulted a journalist in Strasbourg and expressed regret over his actions.
