Strong Messages from Mitsotakis from the Evros fence on the Greek-Turkish border

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis launched a new attack on SYRIZA with an eye on the elections, during the event for the signing of the contract for the construction - extension of the Evros fence, while at the same time he sent messages to Türkiye.

PM Mitsotakis repeated that: "Just the day before yesterday, a prominent member of SYRIZA asked the European Parliament in an imperative manner that the European Union does not finance such artificial obstacles at its borders, because they violate international legality" and added:

The prime minister therefore asked the leader of the official opposition, Alexis Tsipras, the question whether he seeks to continue the extension of the fence on the Evros or whether he also seeks to tear down this part of the fence that has already been built.

He reiterated that the extension of the fence will proceed even with national funds.

"It is not a cheap investment, but it is a necessary investment," said Mitsotakis and added: "We will continue to claim funding with European funds as long as this is possible, but the construction of the deterrent barrier is a national imperative and a shining  example of the state we want, with the coordination of the border guards, the Coast Guard, the EYP".

PM Mitsotakis then called on Türkiye to stop its policy of exploiting refugees and immigrants and to cooperate with Greece. He emphasized that our country (Greece) will welcome every positive step from Ankara, extending a new invitation to dialogue with the neighbor.

"We are always ready to retaliate," the prime minister said, but added: "We are not naive. We really hope that we can create good conditions, so that  after the elections we can pick up the thread of our differences again, but always guided by international law ", concluding: "So we are happy for the good climate, but we are not resting".
