Spokesperson resigns from Hope for Democracy party amid internal tensions

Thanasis Avgerinos has resigned as spokesperson for the Hope for Democracy party, led by Maria Karystianou, citing internal disagreements and alleging the existence of an unofficial parallel press office within the political movement.

Announcing his resignation in a strongly worded Facebook post, Avgerinos said he had not been responsible for the party's communication activities or media representation for several days.

He claimed that he later learned a parallel press office had been operating within the party since at least July 12, adding that he was unaware of its composition or those involved.

"At least since July 12, a parallel press office has been operating within the movement, the composition of which I do not know," Avgerinos wrote.

He also criticized what he described as "suspicious" and "planted advisers" working behind the scenes, arguing that such figures pose a serious challenge to any collective political organization, particularly an independent citizens' movement seeking to promote democratic participation and political change.

The resignation marks the latest sign of internal tensions within the newly established Hope for Democracy party, although no immediate response from the party leadership had been made public at the time of writing.
