Shipping and Island Policy Minister Christos Stylianides on Wednesday condemned the attack against the Greek-owned vessel Sounion in the Red Sea.

"This attack" said the Minister constitutes  "a flagrant violation of the rules of international law and a serious threat to the security of international shipping," the minister said and pointed out that "such actions endanger the lives of seafarers and disrupt the free movement of goods through critical maritime corridors." . He also added that the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy is in constant communication with all relevant agencies.

According to the latest information, the 25-member crew of the Greek-flagged ship, all foreign nationals, was attacked with missiles from two small boats while sailing 72 n.m. west of Hodeidah Yemen, in the Red Sea.

All crew members are in good health. The attack caused material damage to the ship, which remains at the aforementioned site.
