Çınar Association condemns the attack on the Quran and mosque in Western Thrace
Çınar Association Board Members condemned the ugly attack on a mosque and the Quran in the village of Ilıca.
The Çınar Association, operating in Western Thrace, condemned the ugly attack on a mosque and the Qur'an in the village of Ilıca-Xanthi.
In the Kaplıcalar Mahallesi Mosque in the Ilıca (Thermes) village of the Mustafçova (Miki) Municipality of Xanthi, the reactions did not cease when a French citizen tore up the Quran in the mosque and threw it on the ground and gave the mosque time.
The elected deputies, mayors and councillors of the Turkish Minority, DMT State Assembly Members and non-governmental organizations condemned the ugly attack on sacred values with the messages they published.
Another condemnation came from the Çınar Association, which came to the forefront with its work on media, education and cooperation in Western Thrace. The following statements were included in the statement:
"We condemn the vicious attack on a mosque and our holy book, the Qur'an, in the village of Ilıca, which is a part of the Mustafçova Municipality of Xanthi, where Western Thrace Turks live.
We are witnessing that our region is also increasingly affected by the negative consequences of the pumping of Islamophobia and Turkophobia, which have reached dimensions that threaten world peace like a global epidemic, by the people and organizations in a responsible position in our country.
We often witness the negative consequences of the fanatical discourses of many Metropolitans and priests, especially the head of the Greek Church, who are hostile to Turks and Islam, reaching regional, country and international dimensions.
Recently, we have been witnessing how the Western Thrace Turkish Minority of our region has been targeted based on its (national/religious) identity.
We are following with concern how the Muslim Turkish Minority identity has been made a subject of discussion by the leader and staff of the ruling party, and how it has been turned into a target through the media, and how it has been an invitation to a "witch hunt".
It is clearly understood that it is important for the authorities to be more careful on the discourses they use in multicultural and religious regions.
In the digital age, in our world where everyone is aware of what is going on in its most remote corner, it is possible for fanatical Turkish/Muslim enemies to attack the targeted "Muslim Turkish" Minorities and their holy ones wherever they are.
On this occasion, while we condemn the heinous incident once again, we call on officials, rulers, politicians, clergy and members of the media to stay away from dangerous rhetoric that will invite the disruption of social peace and tranquillity.
