Partial official results show Prime Minister Mitsotakis on course for big win, main opposition Syriza performing worse than expected.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ ruling New Democracy (ND) party has a commanding lead in Greece’s parliamentary elections, according to preliminary official results on Sunday.

Partial results from 40% of polling stations showed ND with 41.1% of the vote, followed by ex-Premier Alexis TsiprasSyriza party with a paltry 20.01%.

In the 2019 elections, ND ended on 39.85% and Syriza came in second with 31.53%.

Early official results released by the Interior Ministry showed the social democratic PASOK-KINAL on 12.2%, the Greek Communist Party (KKE) with 6.9%, and the far-right Greek Solution party on 4.5%.

Former Finance Minister Yannis Varoufakis’ MeRA25 party, the Sailing for Freedom party, and the ultra-conservative Victory party are also close to crossing the 3% election threshold.

In the election, the voter turnout rate was recorded as nearly 60%.
