Request for a systematic investigation into the sudden deaths of members of the Armed Forces

Submitted by the Xanthi Military PE Association to the FOES, with a proposal to license a relatively independent authority.

The Union of Military P.E. Xanthis submitted a letter to the Panhellenic Federation of Military Unions requesting that the many sudden deaths of members of the Armed Forces be investigated. In addition, the request was also sent to the parliamentary parties.

As the letter states, "on September 5, 2022, the ED said goodbye to our excellent and beloved colleague, Brigadier General Athanasios Voudrislis, who breathed his last, after a sudden cardiac arrest. Our dear colleague comes to be added to an endless "black" list of active executives, who suddenly end up because their hearts "betrayed" them. The reaction of the Military Service (SY), is limited to issuing instructions or organizing seminars on the protection of our heart health, effectively placing the responsibility on the dead, due to their "bad" habits (poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, etc.) etc.) that justify the conclusion.

As members of the Board of Directors of the Xanthi Regional Military Union, but above all, as colleagues, of all these unfortunate people who left behind their families, friends and colleagues, we must act, seeking all the causes of these tragic endings, even if they are not liked by SY. We need to investigate whether stress and pressure are more or less to blame in the ED ranks than in the rest of society.

This is the only way we will help, primarily our colleagues and secondarily SY to face the problem head on  and provide realistic solutions.

In the above context, we ask for your intervention, in order for the competent bodies (Ministry of Health and National Defense) to license an independent authority, with the mandatory participation of a representative of the P.O.E.S., which will statistically investigate deaths due to cardiac problems both of the general population and of the active ED executives, in order to make the necessary comparisons".
