Private doctors to be able to work in public hospitals!
Private doctors will be allowed to work (including surgeries) in National Health System (NHS) public hospitals, according to an amendment to a draft law by the Ministry of Health, Social Cohesion and Family.
According to Kathimerini newspaper, the amendment stipulates that private doctors of all specialities can cooperate with public hospitals to perform medical procedures, participate in the functioning of outpatient clinics, carry out diagnostic, therapeutic and other medical procedures outside normal hours, as well as surgical operations that require hospitalisation for more than one day.
Private doctors will be able to benefit from all the facilities (nurses, auxiliary staff) provided by public hospitals to public doctors.
Private doctors will pay the hospital to use the equipment and infrastructure as well as the staff they will work with.
Opposition parties oppose the government's new policy and criticise the ministry for privatising the free public health system.
No clear information about when the new application will start has been shared yet.
