Police warn of fake traffic fine phishing scam
Police are warning the public about a sophisticated phishing scam involving fake SMS messages claiming to be traffic fines.
Fake websites demand quick payment
The messages direct recipients to convincing fake websites displaying fabricated details about speeding offences, fines and penalty points. The scam also offers a bogus 50% discount to pressure victims into making an immediate payment.
Police stressed that gov.gr does not send SMS messages containing payment links and warned that professional language or realistic website design does not guarantee authenticity.
Public urged to avoid links
Authorities advise people not to click on links in suspicious messages or provide personal or banking information.
Anyone who has shared banking details should immediately contact their bank and report the incident to police.
