Plan to protect children from digital addiction: Parco and kids wallet apps announced

The Greek government unveiled its National Strategy to protect children from digital addiction during a special event at the Athens Conservatory. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and key ministers were present at the launch.
Key Features of the Strategy
1. Parco.Gov.Gr Platform
Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou emphasized that bans alone are insufficient, advocating for healthy dialogue between parents and children. He introduced Parco.Gov.Gr as a tool to help parents manage their children's digital activities.
Through this platform, parents will be able to:
Set time limits for app usage,
Control usage hours and specific days,
Restrict content access.
2. Kids Wallet App
Expected to launch by spring 2025, the Kids Wallet app will further limit children’s digital engagement while ensuring real age verification. Parents will have the ability to set daily social media usage limits ranging from 1 to 4 hours.
A Holistic Approach
Prime Minister Mitsotakis highlighted that the strategy aims to foster a healthy relationship between children and technology. He called for international collaboration to make social media platforms safer, urging tech companies to prioritize solutions that address the needs of children and adolescents.
“Technology is beneficial, but it cannot replace real-life experiences,” Mitsotakis stated, underlining the importance of maintaining a balance between the digital and physical worlds.
