Off-duty police officer arrested after fatal pedestrian collision in east Attica
A 74-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning after being struck by a car driven by an off-duty police officer in the coastal town of Artemida, eastern Attica, authorities confirmed.
The victim was hit moments before the officer’s vehicle collided with a parked car. Emergency services transported the man to Athens’ Red Cross Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver, who was off duty at the time, was arrested under Greece’s automatic arrest protocol for fatal traffic incidents. Police have conducted blood tests to determine whether alcohol or other substances were involved.
Traffic police responded immediately to the scene, while the Hellenic Police announced that a disciplinary investigation is under way. Procedures to suspend the officer from duty have already been initiated.
