New ID cards: When do they expire - Step by step procedure and fine for those who do not change

Citizens can log on to id.gov.gr with taxisnet codes and request a new identity card or its replacement due to a change of details, expiry, wear and tear or age.

In this way, citizens are given the opportunity to digitally schedule their appointment.

In the booking system, the details of the natural person who will present himself/herself at the appointment for the issuance/replacement of an identity card must be filled in.

In the event of a lost or stolen ID card, you must contact the relevant department and a police station employee will make the first available appointment.

Login with taxisnet codes
When logging in to id.gov.gr, the citizen must select the Region to which he/she belongs, the regional section and the police station where he/she wishes to have the new ID card issued.

After selecting the above data, the police station with which he/she wishes to schedule an appointment will appear on the screen, while at the same time he/she will have to provide his/her personal data, name, address, e-mail, telephone number.

Finally, he will have to state the reason for which he wants the ID card to be issued.

That is, if he wants to issue a new ID card due to wear and tear, expiry, change of any item, or replacement of the old ID card.

How to make an appointment
The person concerned selects in his/her application, Issuing Authority based on his/her permanent or temporary residence address in Greece, a specific day and time from the availability list, in order to be served by physical presence, and enters the following details of the person to whom the appointment relates: full name, email address and optionally a telephone number. It is possible for a third party to make the appointment, but the person must be present in person in order to be served.

* Upon completion of the request, an email is sent to verify the email provided by the person. Subsequently, he/she receives in the verified email the basic information for processing the procedure, as well as the contact details of the Issuing Authority he/she has chosen.

* The appointment scheduling request may be rescheduled or cancelled or resubmitted no later than eight (8) hours in advance. Twenty-four (24) hours before and two (2) hours before the scheduled appointment, the interested party receives a reminder message from the platform to the email address provided.

It is clarified that a time gap is maintained between the appointments of the interested parties for the same Identity Card Issuing Authority, sufficient to complete one appointment before the start of a subsequent one. The times and days of the available appointments may be varied, taking into account constraints on the Issuing Authority's working hours and availability, from time to time and from place to place.

It is worth noting that especially in case of loss or theft of the identity card, the citizen should contact the competent Issuing Authority, based on his/her permanent or temporary residence address in Greece and request the scheduling of an appointment for the issuance of a new card.
