A new service station designed to improve the efficiency of freight transport across Greece was inaugurated on Friday by Olympia Odos, in the presence of Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Dimas.

The facility, located at the Akrata Service Station—70 km from the port of Patras and 156 km from Athens—represents an investment of €2.5 million. Positioned along the key Athens–Patras motorway, the new station supports the connection between two major international trade hubs: the ports of Patras and Piraeus.

Covering nearly 1.5 hectares (15 stremmas), the station offers secure parking and upgraded amenities for the 7.8 million heavy trucks that use Olympia Odos each year. The area is equipped with 34 surveillance cameras, providing 24/7 monitoring to prevent cargo theft, while drivers have access to dedicated rest facilities around the clock.

“Professional drivers work under particularly demanding conditions, and this station contributes both to their safety and to overall road safety,” Minister Dimas said during the inauguration. He added that the collaboration between Olympia Odos and the European Union demonstrates how strategic planning and consistency can transform funding into high-quality infrastructure with clear benefits for local communities.
