Nationwide 24-hour journalists’ strike declared for February 18

Greek journalists will stage a nationwide 24-hour strike on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, starting at 5:00 AM and lasting until Wednesday, February 19. The strike, organized by POESY (Panhellenic Federation of Journalists' Unions) and other media unions, aims to highlight worsening working conditions and the urgent need for Collective Labor Agreements across the media sector.
Key Demands of the Strike
Journalists are calling for:
✅ Abolition of individual contracts and the implementation of Collective Labor Agreements.
✅ Minimum starting salary of €1,250 for all media employees.
✅ 10% salary increase in line with previous labor agreements.
✅ Fair compensation for weekend shifts, field assignments, and work in conflict zones.
✅ Regulations on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism to uphold ethical standards.
✅ Fair remuneration for journalists' intellectual property rights.
The strike will halt news production across public and private media outlets, as journalists demand dignified wages, better working conditions, and professional independence in an increasingly challenging media landscape.
