Shock has gripped the local community in İskeçe after police uncovered a case of abuse involving a 79-year-old Swedish woman who was illegally held captive for about 40 days by a 30-year-old man she had met through Facebook.

According to authorities, the suspect lured the woman with promises of a relationship, brought her to his home, and kept her imprisoned. During her captivity, he allegedly subjected her to systematic mistreatment and took all her money.

The case came to light on Wednesday following information provided by Interpol and coordinated action by the Greek police. Reports indicate that the victim tried to call the European emergency number 112, but the man broke her phone. She eventually managed to send a message to a relative, who alerted Swedish authorities. Interpol then contacted Greek police for immediate intervention.

Police raided the suspect’s residence in İskeçe and found the elderly woman locked up in poor physical condition. A forensic examination revealed bruises, contusions, and abrasions.

The victim is currently being treated at the Internal Medicine Clinic of İskeçe General Hospital and is expected to return to Sweden. The 30-year-old suspect is scheduled to testify before the investigating magistrate on Monday.
