Hagia Sophia demonstration by Fire of Hellenism Members
Xanthi Hellenic Association members as a reaction to the decision of re-opening Hagia Sophia as worship place held a demonstration at the beginning of the street of the Komotini Consulate General.

The group consisting of about 15 people from Xanthi shouted slogans of "Where will we burn our candles, inside Hagia Sophia" and "Turks out of Hagia Sophia" 100 meters away from the consulate building.

The group insulted firstly President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and after the founder of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for about 20 minutes.

At the end of the demonstration, Theofilos Kilinkaridis made a statement on behalf of the Xanthi Fire of Hellenism Association. Explaining why they organized the demonstration, Kilinkaridis said, 'Hagia Sophia will one day belong to Greeks'.

After the announcement, the group of 15 dispersed without incident.
