Greece plans to establish a National Defence University

According to media reports, the Ministries of National Defence and Education started a joint study to establish a new National Defence University.
The National Defence University is planned to be operational in 2026-2027 or 2027-2028.
The aim is to establish a common curriculum among military schools.
Especially after 2020, the number of students entering military schools in higher education has been steadily decreasing, and by 2024 the number of students entering these schools had fallen to 64 per cent of the current capacity.
With the new system to be restructured, it is planned to provide education not only in military fields but also in fields such as science and technology, and to provide 10 percent quota for vocational high school graduates.
A budget of around 20 million euros is to be allocated for the general improvement of the conditions in military schools and the financial support for students is to be increased.
Within the scope of the new restructuring, it is envisaged that doctoral programmes will be offered in military higher education institutions and that doctoral research will also cover defence industry technologies.
