Gavdos Shipwreck: Six more bodies found, fears of additional victims
The tragedy of the recent shipwreck off the coast of Gavdos continues, as the number of confirmed fatalities rises. So far, six bodies have been recovered, including a woman and a child, while fears remain that more victims may be unaccounted for.
Of the 69 refugees who set out from Libya, 55 were rescued, six were found dead, and there are reports of a woman and her two children still missing.
According to efsyn.gr, the survivors were transferred off Crete last week to Malakasa. Among them were individuals who required hospital treatment, including a pharmacist from Sudan who had pneumonia and a young man who underwent surgery for appendicitis.
Although official search operations appear to have concluded, vessels from the Coast Guard and private boats have been instructed to continue informal searches in the area.
