Free tolls: İskeçe residents among those eligible – Required documents

With toll costs continuing to rise, many drivers may not realize that they could be eligible for free toll passage. Several social groups are entitled to drive through toll stations without charge, provided they meet certain criteria and submit the required application with the necessary documentation.

Who Qualifies for Free Toll Access

The first group includes permanent residents of specific municipalities. Residents living permanently in the following areas are eligible for free toll passage:
Bulustra, Soroviç, Dedeağaç, Argos Orestiko, Kozlukebir, Dimetoka, Igoumenitsa, Yassıköy, Kesriye, Gümülcine, Maronya-Şapçı, Maçova, Nestram, Mustafçova, İskeçe, Kumçiftliği, Pangaio, Prespa, Semadirek, Souli, Sofulu, İnhanlı, Filat, and Florina.

To obtain approval, applicants must upload the required documents electronically in .pdf or .jpg format via the official online platform. The necessary documents include:

  • Copy of national ID card
  • Recent income tax statement
  • Vehicle registration license
  • Valid unemployment card (for unemployed applicants)
  • Disability parking card (for persons with disabilities)
  • Uploading these files is mandatory for the application to be considered valid.
  • Free Tolls for the Unemployed and Persons with Disabilities

In addition to permanent residents, unemployed individuals are also entitled to toll exemptions, provided that:

  • The vehicle is registered in their name, and
  • They personally drive the vehicle during transit.
  • At toll stations, drivers must present a valid unemployment card.

The same exemption applies to persons with disabilities (PWDs). Vehicles owned by or serving people with disabilities are exempt from toll charges, as long as they carry an official Disability Parking Card. This card is issued by the Regional Transport and Communications Departments and must include the holder’s full name and registration number.

A Right Many Citizens Overlook

In short, thousands of Greek citizens, including those living in İskeçe and other eligible municipalities, can travel without paying tolls—as long as they are aware of their rights and complete the application process correctly.
