Fraud alert over “Free Holiday Package” scam
Authorities have issued a warning to the public against fraudulent emails sent under the name of a so-called “Free Holiday Package,” falsely claiming to be issued on behalf of the Ministry of Development.
According to officials, the scam emails allege that a free aid package is being offered under an alleged state-supported program titled “Family Christmas Rescue Package 2025.” However, recipients are asked to pay a €100 “logistics and registration fee” in order to receive the package, revealing the fraudulent nature of the scheme.
It was noted that scammers are attempting to lend credibility to the messages by using the name of Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos and by creating fake email addresses that imitate official government institutions.
In a statement, law enforcement authorities emphasized that these messages are entirely fake and intended for fraud. Citizens were strongly urged not to respond to such emails, not to make any payments, and not to open any attachments or links included in the messages.
Officials also reminded the public that official institutions never request personal information or payments via email, and advised citizens to contact relevant authorities directly in cases of suspicion.
