FM Gerapetritis: Greece has chosen the path of strong alliances and an active diplomacy

Greece has chosen a specific road in foreign affairs in the last two years, Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis said in an interview on Thursday, that of boosting its position internationally by developing strong alliances and of an active diplomacy.

"We have formulated a working relationship with Türkiye and there is a structured dialog, which continues," Gerapetritis told Naftemporiki TV, and the channels to prevent tension and crises exist.

The FM acknowledged that although "we do not have any impressive development on the major issues, meaning the issues related to the delimitation of maritime zones," violations of air space have "dropped to nearly zero" and the same has happened with migration flows from Türkiye."

Referring to relations with Türkiye and Libya, particularly on the maritime zones, the minister said he had been trying to maintain a balanced political position between the two sides, adding that Libya respected the Greek median line when it declared its own sea blocks. "We are willing to begin technical discussions with Libya for our own delimitation," Gerapetritis said, adding that he keeps in direct touch with Commander Hafter and his three sons, as well as with the president of Eastern Libya's Parliament.

Gerapetritis also referred to the major linking of Greece's and Cyprus' power grids that the EU supports, while he said it is too early to comment on a Turkish agreement to buy Eurofighter jets.
