"We mourn for this tragedy, for the losses and deaths of our people, for the damage to nature," Sakelaropulu said.
Prime Minister Kiryakos Mitsotakis went to the Civil Protection Department to get information about the fires.
Speaking to ERT, Greek Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said, "It is a new reality that we have to fight against."
Marinakis accused the opposition, which criticised the government for failing to adequately respond to the fires, of "using the fires for their own purposes".
In response to Marinakis, Stergios Kalpakis, Press Spokesperson of the main opposition party Radical Left Alliance (SYRIZA), said, "Marinakis is attacking the opposition instead of recognising the inability of the Mitsotakis government to respond to the fires in a timely and correct manner."
The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) also accused the government of not having the necessary plan to fight the fires.
In a statement, the Greek Solution Party, referring to Mitsotakis' bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday, said: "While Greece is burning, society is suffering and Hellenism is under threat, Mr Mitsotakis, as the new Nero, promised to rebuild Ukraine."
