According to Article 103, when driving a motor vehicle, the driver must carry:

  • A valid driver’s license, in either printed or digital form
  • The vehicle registration certificate
  • Proof of insurance
  • Proof of payment of vehicle circulation tax

In addition, depending on the type and use of the vehicle, the driver may also be required to carry:

  • A special driving license for public passenger transport vehicles
  • A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • An ADR certificate and related documents required under the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road, ratified by Law 1741/1987
  • A vehicle technical inspection certificate (roadworthiness test)
  • An emissions control card
  • A tachograph compliance certificate
  • A speed limiter certificate
  • The relevant inspection or compliance sticker
  • Any other document, certificate, or permit required under special regulations, depending on the vehicle category

  • Drivers of bicycles and electric personal mobility vehicles (EPMVs) aged 12 and over are required to carry any valid personal identification document while riding.

Rented and Leased Vehicles
Vehicles rented from car rental companies or acquired through financial leasing are subject to special provisions. Authorities remind drivers that failure to carry the required documents may result in fines, as stipulated under the new Road Traffic Code.
