Chameria Massacre Commemoration in Front of the Consulate of Greece in Edirne

Members of non-governmental organisations gathered under the leadership of Balkan Turks Federation in front of the Greek Consulate in Edirne. The group carrying Turkish flags and banners left a black wreath in front of the consulate with the inscription 'We have not forgotten the Chamerya massacre'.
A black wreath was left in front of the Consulate of Greece in Edirne on the 80th anniversary of the Chameria massacre.

Members of non-governmental organisations gathered under the leadership of Balkan Turks Federation in front of the Consulate of Greece in Edirne.

The group carrying Turkish flags and banners left a black wreath in front of the consulate with the inscription "We have not forgotten the Chamerya massacre".

Making a statement on behalf of the group, Sabri Mutlu, President of the Confederation of Balkan Rumelia Turks, said that they would not forget the massacre in Chamerya and that it was a black stain on history.

Emphasising that Greek lands, whose history is full of black stains, have been the scene of many massacres, Mutlu said: "The massacres in Peloponnese, Tripoli, Navarin and Chamerya are the most obvious examples. Greek politicians who say that they are fighting for democracy have actually inflicted a complete atrocity on the minorities in their country. The reason why we are gathering here today is to commemorate thousands of innocent Albanian Muslims who were massacred by Greece in 1944-1945 in the Chamerya Region in the north-west of Greece. This massacre could not be forgotten and will not be forgotten."

The event was attended by Zürfettin Hacıoğlu, Chairman of the Balkan Rumelia Turks Confederation Foreign Activities Commission, Gülsüm Kaynaklar, President of Babaeski Balkan Turks Solidarity Association and members of non-governmental organisations.
